Ways to Stand Out In The Workplace
Alice Tutunjian
As the workplace becomes increasingly competitive, it’s important to set ourselves apart as winners. Standing out is important for career progression, for salary increase, for our self-esteem, confidence and a multitude of other reasons.
There are so many ways to stand out in the workplace. Try these for a start:
Be someone who provides solutions instead of complaints
When others are being complacent or only pointing out problems, be part of the solution
Under-promise and over-deliver. Get the project done ahead of time and under budget
Stick to your commitments. Sadly, too often employees commit to tasks or promise to deliver on a project but don’t follow through. Keep your promises
Plan ahead and prioritize. Organize your tasks and don’t put off the painful yet important priorities
Volunteer to take on projects that are considered boring, unpleasant, difficult and painful. Complete them fully and successfully
Be dependable and reliable. Show up to work on time and stay late if needed
Offer help to others who, despite good intentions, are struggling to keep up
Offer to train new employees
Share your ideas for improvement with your manager/team
Stay positive, calm and professional
Be a great communicator and a great team player
